What is Cryotherapy?

Cryotherapy involves rapid cooling of the body from extremely low temperatures to trigger a physiological response to cold. During a whole body treatment, the low temperatures cool the body from the neck down, causing the blood to rush to the body’s core. The machine used for WBC is called a cryosauna. The cryosauna has a cool retention effect using a mixture of liquid nitrogen, vapor, and air When the treatment is done, the healthy red blood cells will then rush back into the muscles and tissues, rejuvenating them. This treatment is geared for wellness, pain therapy, and performance. Local cryotherapy uses extremely cold temperatures to target one specific area of the body strictly for pain relief/reduction of inflammation. A cryofacial is a cryogenic treatment in which a controlled beam of vaporized nitrogen is used on the face, scalp, and neck area. During the 6 minute treatment, cold nitrogen vapors rapidly chill the skin causing blood to rush away from the face. At the end of the treatment, as the blood returns, collagen production is kickstarted. The production of collagen helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as inflammation that causes undereye bags, sinusitis, and redness caused by acne. Many clients also report intense relief from headaches and migraines.

How often should I come in for WBC/Local/Facial?

For optimal benefits, one should initially undergo a series of 3-5 consecutive treatments and then continue with weekly maintenance treatments.

Is this a long term or short term fix?

Cryotherapy has long term and short term effects. In terms of short term effects, there will be a noticeable reduction in pain and increased mobility to areas that were limited prior to treatment. There will also be reduced swelling in acute injuries and elevated energy levels. Consistent use of cryotherapy can extend the health benefits for greater lengths of time. In terms of long term effects, cold exposure has been proven in several anecdotal studies to improve mood and even be a viable option for the treatment of depression and other mood disorders. Cryotherapy also increases norepinephrine. One of the most important response mechanisms of the human body is centralized around the regulation of the crucial hormone and neurotransmitter. NE has key inflammation reducing properties. Regular cold exposure has also been shown to increase white blood cell count, increase cytotoxic T lymphocytes (active in killing cancer cells) and increase other beneficial immune cells as well. Cryotherapy also improves metabolism. When the body is exposed to cold, its response is to produce heat. It does this by increasing its metabolism to produce heat to warm the body back up (thermogenesis).

No session may be longer than 3 minutes.

When will I feel the differences that Cryotherapy arouses?

Should I do cryotherapy before or after a work out?

It is recommended to not workout at least 1 hour before treatment. If you exercise before WBC, you will experience increased energy and greater recovery due to the reduction in inflammation. If you exercise after the cryosauna, you will experience higher pain tolerance, more energy, and increased performance.

Should I mix hot and cold temperatures my first time?

It is recommended to keep the hot and cold separate for at least your first session to see which one you respond better to and to get the full benefits of each.

How cold does cryotherapy get?


How does cryotherapy differ from going outside in the cold?

Cryotherapy is much colder than going outside in the cold and localized cryotherapy can be targeted on specific parts of the body.

Are there any negative side effects?

Short term numbness in certain areas of the body, tingling throughout body particularly in lower extremities, pinkish colored legs from the blood re-perfusion extremities, fatigue 3 hours after if your metabolism is poor.

How long (time wise) are your treatments?

WBC is 3 minutes, localized is 2 to 5 minutes, facial is 6 minutes.

Why does it feel colder in some parts of the body than others? (Doing WBC, some say they feel it most in back of arms, thighs, stomach, knees etc.)

It is important to rotate during the treatment to ensure that no areas of the body are overexposed. Also, nitrogen sinks to the bottom of the chamber and therefore, the upper body will be less cold than the lower body.

Why can’t you go in after a workout?

In order to go into the cryosauna, one must be completely dry, no sweat or dampness anywhere on the body.

How many treatments can I do in one day?

We recommend only doing 1 of a certain treatment in a day, but you can pair some treatments together to maximize effects and benefits.

Can I combine treatments?

Yes. We offer a variety of modalities and will recommend the order of services depending on which ones you choose.

Differences between WBC/Local

Localized cryotherapy is strictly used for pain relief/reduction of inflammation in one specific area of the body such as the lower back, shoulder, knee, etc. As the name suggests, whole body cryotherapy treats the whole body from the neck down.

What are Normatecs?

Normatecs are a form of compression therapy which is a rapid recovery system that uses compressed air to massage limbs, increase circulation, and mobilize fluid. Compression therapy is offered for legs, hips, and arms.

Will this help with Arthritis/Herniated Disc/Joint Pain/Lyme/fibromyalgia (most common)?
