An Introduction to CBD Products

At Nordic Edge, we are pleased to offer a wide variety of CBD products to help our clients enhance their overall wellness. You’ve likely heard of CBD and may have questions about what it is and how it can help you. Let’s take a closer look at some of the ways CBD oil can be used.

What Is CBD?

CBD refers to cannabidiol, a compound that comes from the cannabis plant. While cannabis is the same plant from which we get marijuana, CBD is not a psychoactive compound (meaning it does not affect the mental process). CBD is known for being anti-inflammatory, and it may also help reduce pain and anxiety.

CBD Isolate vs. Full Spectrum CBD

You may have seen the terms full spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. By understanding the difference between the two, it will help you select the best CBD products for your needs.

Both types help in reducing pain, anxiety, and inflammation, it may also help reduce the occurrence of seizures, lower blood sugar levels, alleviate nausea, and suppress muscle spasms. So when would you want to use CBD isolate as opposed to a full spectrum CBD product?

CBD isolate contains only purified CBD that has been isolated from other cannabinoids. If it is your first time using CBD, or your pain/stress level is on the more minimal side, we might recommend trying a CBD isolate product first.

Full spectrum CBD contains other cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. In addition to cannabidiol, full spectrum products also include cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV). They may also have trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and the low concentrations of this compound will produce very minimal psychoactive effects.

Despite all the benefits of CBD isolate, some studies indicate that the effects of full spectrum CBD are more powerful and provide stronger relief. As shown in a 2014 study, combining CBD isolate with other cannabinoids may even increase its effectiveness. However, there are times when using CBD isolate alone may be enough to provide symptom relief. Not everyone may need the enhanced capabilities of full spectrum CBD. If you still have questions or concerns, our wellness experts at The Nordic Edge are happy to help.

Delivery Methods: Tincture vs. Topical

CBD can be administered orally through CBD products such as gummies, tea, and tinctures, or topically through products like muscle salves, balms, lotions, and even deodorants.

Topical CBD products are applied directly to the skin so that the active compounds can be absorbed. This method may be best if you’re looking to treat specific areas of the body where symptoms such as joint or muscle pain are occurring. When CBD is used orally, as with a tincture or gummy product, it eventually enters the bloodstream and interacts with cannabinoid receptors throughout the body.

What is a tincture? A tincture is a liquid supplement in a very concentrated form and can be added to food and beverages, or it can be applied directly underneath the tongue. This delivery method may make the cannabidiol more readily available to the body, therefore having a faster, and potentially more noticeable effect.
